For many years I have thought about having a Michigan Chat Meet.
I even tried to get one going a couple times, but it seems like something has always gotten in the way...especially with me
not knowing where I was going to be living....and it never panned out. This year, however, I am going to make it work....since
I DO know where I'm going to be living...LOL... While Michigan may not be the most desireable place to live in the middle
of winter, it's summer months offers so many beautiful places to visit. I want to show that there is more to Michigan
that just cold and snow. This is the year I'm going to finally do it. And who better to do it with than my CFYM
family.
I have chosen Mackinaw Island and Mackinaw City for the location of
this years chat meet and it will not be easy to pull off. It's going to take more of an effort on my part to get things
organized and it's going to take effort on the part of you, the visitors, to get there also. There is no large airport
to fly in to, so it's going to require you to rent a car if you fly in. And it will be a 2 1/2 to 4 hour drive after
you get off of the airplane in order to get to Mackinaw City.
Seriously, this is THE trip of planes, trains
and automobiles. Except this time it's planes, automobiles and ferry's.
It will be challenging to get us all there, but once we are there, it
will all be worth it. I promise you.
Some of you may not know a thing about Mackinaw. It's the last city in the Lower Pennisula of
Michigan before you cross over the Mighty Mackinaw Bridge into the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. If you are a history
buff, you will LOVE this trip. There is massive amounts of history to learn and many things to see. I've been
there many many times, but this time I will be more into exploring the bars than learning the history!! LOL!!
However, that doesn't mean you can't!! There is plenty of time for cocktails at 5 p.m.
Another thing you simply HAVE to see is beautiful Mackinaw Island. The island is about 8 square
miles and no motor vehicles of any kind are allowed on the island. You get around by walking, using bicycles or horses.
However, there ARE 3 vehicles on the island. One police car, one ambulance and one fire truck. I have been going
up to the island for years and I have never seen them though. They exist for emergencies, of course. The No-Motor-Vehicle
rule is part of the ultimate charm of Mackinaw Island. I will post many links to the island and the city itself, so
check it all out.
The first thing we need to do is work on a weekend. The months
that you'll want to think about are June and July. I also know that some of you have children to think about and they
will be out of school for the summer, so, for those who have a family to think about, why not bring them along and make it
a family affair! The more the merrier....just, do not ask me to babysit. I'm leaving mine AT HOME!
Since this is a public forum, I am going to keep the dates of our trip
private and it will be posted at the CFYM board for everyone to see. This site is for information and links to make
your traveling a bit easier. However, if you have any questions or want anything added, just let me know and I'll do
my best to add it on.
Use the navigation bar to the left to read about airports, hotels and links to the Mackinaw Michigan
area. There is also a photo gallery with pictures from around the area also. It's a beautiful place to visit so
be sure to pack your camera!!
